Qatari Newspapers Editorials
Doha, February 27 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials Monday an array of local topics, including Qatar's hosting of the Fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5) from March 5 to 9, which reflects the international community's confidence in Doha as a capital of a recognized diplomatic weight.
The Qatari dailies also shed light on the holding the 3rd edition of Qatar Economic Forum in collaboration with Bloomberg in May. The Forum is expected to address prominent global challenges affecting societies and economies around the world.
In another context, today's editorials noted Qatar's great keenness on the health aspect of the community, stressing that the health system in Qatar focuses on the quality of services provided to the people and on meeting their needs in the best way possible.
Under the headline "Fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries" Al-Sharq newspaper said that the State of Qatar is gearing up to host the Fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5) from March 5 to 9 - a huge event and one of the most important international conferences that the State of Qatar ever hosted - few months only following its outstanding successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
LDC5 is expected to bring together between 4,000 and 5,000 participants from outside the country and 1,000 from within, including a large number of heads of state and government and their deputies, foreign ministers, high-ranking officials, and decision-makers. The wide international participation at the highest levels confirms the great importance of this event at the international level, Al-Sharq indicated.
The State of Qatar has completed all the necessary arrangements to ensure success of the conference in coordination with the United Nations, including facilitating entry procedures for all guests, participants and media professionals. The ongoing preparations show the high capabilities of the State of Qatar and its experience in hosting important international events, the paper added.
The State of Qatar looks forward for the conference to contribute to finding radical solutions and coming up with recommendations that help advance development and prosperity in the least developed countries. It is a goal that Doha seeks to achieve by mobilizing efforts and pushing the international community to unite and support the least developed countries by launching specific partnerships and initiatives that achieve progress, prosperity and sustainable development in these countries, Al-Sharq said.
On the other hand, Qatari daily Al-Watan noted the great success achieved by the second edition of Qatar Economic Forum in collaboration with Bloomberg as the State is gearing up to host the third edition of the Forum in May.
In its editorial entitled "Promoting Connectivity and Growth", Al-Watan noted that Qatar Economic Forum 2023 is expected to address important global challenges affecting societies and economies around the world, with the aim of strengthening interdependence as an international community by focusing on global growth and establishing a new roadmap for global growth in a challenging environment.
Qatar Economic Forum 2023 is held in Qatar - the heart of the Middle East - which will allow thought leaders and decision-makers from different societies to connect to reach globally applicable solutions for a secure and sustainable future for all, with the participation of a large group of academics and heads of government, to highlight innovations necessary to drive the global economy, Al-Watan said.
The second edition of the Forum, held in June 2022, brought together around 1,000 participants including CEOs, inspiring entrepreneurs, innovative business leaders and others, in order to forge a constructive dialogue to find solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges, such as the ongoing supply chain crisis, the discrepancy between future jobs, and the current capabilities of the workforce, in the post-COVID-19 world, the paper noted.
Qatar Economic Forum 2023 would charts the course for the future stages of the global economic growth, by building on previous achievements and successes, and the momentum resulting from joining a global dialogue that Qatar has contributed to its structure. It is an opportunity to be guided by the opinions of elite personalities for the sake of a better world for all, Al-Watan concluded.
Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar's government has set its sights on building an effective social protection system for all Qataris, meeting the aspirations of retirees and ensuring a decent life for them, especially the category of widows, the group which the state has surrounded with great care. In this context, Al-Raya noted that Qatar has increased the retirement pensions and widow’s shares to 100%. Al-Raya noted the statements of Director of the Retirement Department at the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (GRSIA) Khalifa Issa Al Khulaifi saying that the Social Insurance Law approved a number of amendments to the shares of the beneficiaries, which resulted in an increase in the shares due. Many segments entered under this amendment. It affected hundreds of families and enabled them to achieve financial solvency that works to stabilize and preserve their dignity. There are many benefits of the Social Insurance Law, which will benefit a large segment of Qatari citizens and contribute to providing a decent life. It will also preserve the well-being of Qatari citizens, especially the widows, who expect all support from us to face the burdens of life, especially as their income is no longer sufficient to cover their needs, the newspaper added. In another topic, English newspapers The Peninsula said Qatar puts the health of the entire community on top of its priorities. The healthcare system in Qatar is marked by its focus on the quality of services provided to people and meeting their needs in the best way possible. Under the title "World-Class Health Services", the newspaper said that five Qatar hospitals ranked among the world’s top 250 academic medical centers, the highest number of hospitals from the region. The four centers under Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) made it onto the list, including Rumailah Hospital, Hamad General Hospital, the National Center for Cancer Care and Research and the Heart Hospital. The fifth Doha-based entity that reached the global ranking is Sidra Medicine. Qatar’s healthcare system is the best in the region. The country ranked among top 20 countries in Numbeo Healthcare Index by Country 2021. In the survey, Doha emerged as the first in the GCC on Numbeo Healthcare Index by City 2021, The Peninsula noted. The country’s healthcare spending is among the highest in the Middle East, with QR22.7bn invested in healthcare in 2018, a 4 % increase from the previous year, it added. The Peninsula concluded by saying that Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has announced a set of system changes to enhance the out-patient appointment booking process and improve access to care for patients. Another initiative to soon benefit patients and ensure faster access to care is the upcoming launch of evening clinics at the Ambulatory Care Center in specialties such as ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat, urology and audiology.
