Director of International Organizations Department: LDC5 is Opportunity to Review International Community Support to Achieve Sustainable Development 

 
 
Doha, February 27 (QNA) - HE Director of International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri underlined that the State of Qatar's hosting of the Fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5) from March 5 to 9 constitutes an opportunity to review the solidarity and support of the international community to achieve sustainable development for the least developed countries, and realize prosperity and stability at the global and regional levels.
His Excellency added that the LDC5 is an opportunity for concerted international efforts to accelerate the pace of sustainable development in the least developed countries; indicating that the conference is held once every ten years and provides opportunities for these countries to benefit from the international efforts to support the available capabilities and achieve the desired goals.
His Excellency noted that the fifth edition of the conference is held after the COVID-16 pandemic which paralyzed the entire world, and at a time of increasing natural disasters and climate change crises. He believed that the conference presents a platform for the international community to show its solidarity and support to the countries most in need, and reduce the damage caused in order to achieve sustainable development; noting that the 46 least developed countries in the world are striving to achieve the goals of sustainable development by 2030.
HE the Director of International Organizations Department underlined that the high-level participation in the conference indicates the keenness of the UN member states to unify international efforts and solidarity in order to achieve sustainable development, stressing: "We are fully prepared to receive partners from all over the world, and we are pleased that Doha be a capital of multilateral international action."
His Excellency noted that the UN offices have begun their work in Doha, and that "The UN House Qatar" will be inaugurated on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Least Developed Countries, which demonstrates that the State of Qatar values its strategic partnership with the United Nations.
The State of Qatar welcomes all valued guests to Doha, and will join efforts to provide the best means of hospitality and ensure the success of the conference, His Excellency continued. (QNA)
