MEGA-PRO CAMP CRITICIZES KPU'S DECLARATION OF PEACEFUL CAMPAIGNS

Jakarta, June 11 (ANTARA) - The camp of the Megawati Soekarnoputri-Prabowo Subianto presidential and vice presidential ticket has criticized the General Elections Commission (KPU)'s declaration of a peaceful campaigning period.

The outdoor peaceful campaigns declared by the KPU is useless, if the campaigns are fraught with deceptive practices, said Fadli Zon, secretary of the Mega-Pro national campaign team here Thursday.
"We don't need peaceful campaigns. What we need is honest campaigns," Zon said after the declaration of the Indonesian Youth Brotherhood (Persada Indonesia) Association's support for the Mega-Pro pair here.
If the campaigns are carried out in dishonest ways, there will be no peaceful campaigns because such practices will disappoint the other presidential and vice presidential aspirants, he said.
He added, one of the KPU's decisions considered to be deceptive was the electoral body's plan to close down about 60,000 polling stations (TPS) in Indonesia.

"I call on the cadres of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party to anticipate the KPU's deceptive practices including the reduction of the number of polling stations. This must be monitored," he said.

Fadli Zon also asked Gerindra and Indonesian Democratic Party- Struggle (PDIP) cadres to check at village administration offices whether or not their names already appear in Permanent Voters' Lists (DPTs).

"If your name is not yet listed, ask them (KPU) to correct the ovesrsight," he said, adding that ahead of the July 8 presidential election, the Mega-Pro duo had signed political contracts with various elements of society to improve conditions in the country.
