BOEDIONO VISITS LARANGAN MARKET IN SIDOARJO
Sidoarjo, East Java, June 11 (ANTARA) - Vice-presidential candidate Boediono who pairs with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) of the Democratic Party (PD) visited the Larangan Market in Sidoarjo District, East Java here on Thursday.
Boediono said his visit to the market was to introduce himself as the vice presidential hopeful as the running mate of SBY, and to monitor the market's activities.
"The objective of my visit here is to introduce myself as I will be running in the presidential and vice presidential race 2009," Boediono, former governor of Bank Indonesia (BI, the country's central bank), said.
He also hoped to listen to views and complaints of the local traders. He promised to fight for the people's wishes.
In the visit, he was accompanied by Rizal Malarangeng and Deputy Mayor of Surabaya Arif Affandi.
Boediono stayed in the market for around 15 minutes and greeted traders who happened in the outside of the market.
From Sidoarjo, Boediono and his entourage were scheduled to visit Pasuruan where he would hold a meeting with Kyai Idris Hamid of Sidogiri Islamic boarding school and pay a homage to the grave of Mbah Hamid, a local prominent figure. From Pasuruan, he will proceed to Central Java.
Arif Affandi earlier said that Boediono was scheduled to attend an open campaign in Malang, East Java, on Friday (June 12).
Meanwhile, Presidential Candidate Susilo Bambang attended a dialog with traders of Tanah Abang market in central Jakarta, Thursday.
The dialog dubbed "Presidential candidate visits the market" was held at Block A building of the Tanah Abang.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009. The presidential elections will be held on July 8, 2009.
ncumbent Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who pairs with Boediono, is competing with other candidates, namely Jusuf Kalla and his running mate retired General Wiranto, as well as with former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo in the upcoming presidential race.
