PERTAMINA NOT TO IMPORT MORE OIL FOLLOWING REFINERY INCIDENT

Jakarta, June 11 (ANTARA) - State-owned oil and gas company Pertamina will not increase its oil imports following a disturbance that forced its Cilacap refinery to stop operatimg, a Pertamina spokesman said.

Pertamina spokesman Basuki Trikora Putra said here on Thursday that the shortage of oil supplies due to the disturbance in the Cilacap refinery plant could be covered by enough national stocks.

"National stock at present is relatively safe and is equivalent to the amount which could meet the need for 22 days. It would not disturb fuel oil distribution," Tiko, Trikora is popularly called, said.

He said that Pertamina would only maintain the amount of oil it had decided to import this year. Pertamina imports 40 percent of fuel oils of the normal need at home.

In 2009, Pertamina's procurement of premium gasoline is set at 19.7 million kiloliters, consisting of its own production amounting to 10.9 million kiloliters and import of 8.8 million kiloliters.

Its kerosene procurement will reach 5.9 million kiloliters which all would be obtained from domestic oil refinery plants.

Diesel oil procurement will reach 23 million kiloliters, of which 16.7 million kiloliters produced domestically while the remaining 6.3 million kiloliters will be imported.

Pertamina's aviation turbine (avtur) aircraft fuel procurement is set at 1.8 million kiloliters, the overall of which are to be produced at home.

The Cilacap refinery plant stopped its operation on Wednesday (June 3, 2009) at 8.07 am as a result of a disturbance in its second crude distillation unit (CDU).

As a result, the production of about 230,000 barrels of oil per day in CDU 2 was halted. The Cilacap refinery plant has a total production capacity of 348,000 barrels per day. It consisted of two CDUs, namley CDU 1 with a capacity of 118,000 barrels per day and CDU 2 with a production capacity of 230,000 barrels per day.

But on Tuesday (June 9, 2008), at 5 pm, the Cilacap plant began to be operated in stages again. ***2***
