Doha, March 05 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers on Sunday highlighted HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's opening of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5): From Potential To Prosperity.
The Qatari dailies agreed that the State of Qatar has established its international status as a capital for international cooperation and mobilization of capabilities to face crucial challenges. The papers underlined that the wise leadership of Qatar believes in the importance of unifying ranks to resolve global crises.
In its editorial, Al-Sharq said that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's opening of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5): From Potential To Prosperity reflects the significance of the conference which provides a historical opportunity to reaffirms the international commitment to constructive cooperation, multilateral action, and the support for the least developed countries in addressing the grave challenges resulted by the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the economic crises and the effects of climate change.
Qatar's initiative to host the LDC5 stems from its belief in the need to pay the greatest attention to the needs of the least developed countries. In this context, Qatar stands at the forefront of countries supporting these countries, and has stressed its keenness to continue providing support to them in cooperation with its partners around the world. In addition, Qatar has allocated a large part of its international development assistance to these countries, Al-Sharq said.
The Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries constitutes a milestone in fulfilling the commitments made in the Doha Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries, and interpreting the overall ambitious promises, measures, and commitments of the Doha Program of Action into practical actions and achieving the desired transformation in the lives of LDCs people, Al-Sharq added.
Under the headline "Opportunity for Hope and Change", Al-Watan said that the world awaits today the kickstart of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in Doha in order to fulfill the commitments made in the Doha Program of Action for the least developed countries, and to strengthen cooperation and partnerships with least developed countries.
The paper considered the LDC5 an opportunity for hope, change and expressing the sincere desire for meaningful collective action, so that the conference would be a significant turning point in responding to the aspirations of the peoples of LDCs, as confirmed by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani before the Summit of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group convened in Doha yesterday.
Al-Watan noted that Qatar is considered one of the largest donors and supporters of the least developed countries. The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has contributed USD708 million over the past year, in total humanitarian and development aid.
The State of Qatar's efforts have been able to contribute to achieving sustainable and lasting peace and development, and to making change in fragile and marginalized societies around the world, by supporting basic resources, in addition to implementing projects and programs for a number of UN organizations to back the least developed countries, Al-Watan concluded.  
 
 
Qatari newspaper Al-Raya underlined the State of Qatar has established its international position as the capital of international cooperation and the mobilization of capabilities in order to face the challenges. Qatar, through its wise leadership, believes in the need to stand together to solve global crises by mobilizing all the elements to bring about change in the world, especially in marginalized societies.
Qatar has harnessed all its donations to the United Nations and international organizations to support the implementation of the goals of the United Nations, especially in the least developed countries that suffer from development challenges, the paper added.
As part of Qatar's distinguished Qatari effort in favor of multilateral international action, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will open Sunday the 5th UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5) which is held under the theme "From Potential to Prosperity" at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), with the participation of a lineup of Their Majesties, Highnesses and Excellences heads of states and governments, ministers and diplomats from sisterly and friendly countries, along with senior officials, businessmen, decision makers and representatives of regional and international organizations and companies, Al-Raya said.
It noted that the State of Qatar has always called for making development and growth available to all societies, which requires active participation of the international community to support the steadfastness of poor countries and marginalized societies, especially as the world began to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Al-Raya underlined that the State of Qatar is keen on the well-established strategic relationship with the United Nations, and its highly appreciates this partnership and seeks to harness it to strengthen the international efforts to confront current global challenges. In order to localize sustainable development in the least developed countries, Qatar has adopted a strategic choice by opening the UN House in Doha which includes 12 international offices, whose efforts will be launched from Doha, the capital of international cooperation.
English newspaper The Peninsula said that Qatar is set to host five-day LDC5 Conference in Doha today where world leaders will gather with the private sector, civil society, parliamentarians, and young people to advance new ideas, raise new pledges of support.
Under the headline "Growing Global Stature", the paper said that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will inaugurate today the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which is held under the theme "From Potential to Prosperity".
The paper pointed to the statements of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani that the conference will constitute a milestone toward fulfilling the commitment of the Doha Program of Action toward the least developed countries (LDCs). He said that the participants have a historical opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to constructive cooperation and multilateral action, support the LDCs in addressing the grave challenges.
Qatar has made significant and laudable contributions to assisting the least developed countries to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, by strengthening its partnerships in most needy regions, ensuring the achievement of social, economic and environmental development, the paper added.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also inaugurated the 'United Nations House' in Lusail, yesterday, which shows Qatar's strong partnership with the United Nations. The Youth Forum was also held yesterday within the framework of LDC5 Conference and discussed stimulating efforts to empower this group in about 46 countries that suffered from insufficient resources to combat epidemics and escalating debts, The Peninsula concluded.  (QNA)
