Doha, March 06 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers on Monday highlighted the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the opening of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5): From Potential To Prosperity, which kicked off at Qatar National Convention Center yesterday.
The Qatari dailies underlined that HH the Amir's speech presented a clear plan with a specific vision aimed at enabling the least developed countries overcome grave challenges, most notably poverty, food insecurity, healthcare and education.
The papers agreed that the most prominent message in HH the Amir's speech was the emphasis on the moral obligation incumbent upon the rich and developed countries to contribute more to assist the least developed countries, as well as the call for more international humanitarian cooperation and solidarity as the only way to face the grave challenges and unprecedented structural obstacles afflicting the world.
The papers underlined that HH the Amir's participation in the opening of the LDC5 alongside 22 monarchs and presidents as well as heads of governments demonstrated the significant importance and the utmost priority the State of Qatar attaches to the Doha Program of Action as the roadmap to support the least developed countries in the next decade.
In its editorial entitled "Words and Deeds", Al-Watan newspaper said that the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the opening of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) presented a clear plan with a specific vision aimed at enabling the least developed countries overcome grave challenges, most notably poverty, food insecurity, healthcare and education.
The paper noted that HH the Amir's announcement of a financial contribution of a total amount of US$60 million for supporting the implementation of the Doha Program of Action activities for the least developed countries matches words to deeds and sets an example that is hoped to be followed through other international initiatives, as part of the humanitarian and development duty towards the people of the least developed countries.
HH the Amir identified with great transparency the causes of the dilemmas these countries have been witnessing, when he pointed to the the absence of justice in the correlation between the advanced industrial centers and the peripheries of our world, and to the joint global liability in confronting food security challenges, climate change, energy crisis and debt crisis. HH the Amir said that finding solutions is a shared collective task and responsibility among all countries, and that is a moral obligation incumbent upon the rich and developed countries to contribute more to assist the least developed countries to overcome the global challenges, Al-Watan stressed.
For its part, Qatari daily Al-Sharq said that LDC5 is convened amidst grave challenges facing the world as a result of new international conflicts, global food security crisis, climate change phenomenon, and lingering impacts of COVID-19 pandemic, which requires the international community to contemplate these challenges, specially rich and developed countries.
Al-Sharq highlighted the most prominent message in HH the Amir speech - who was elected as president of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries - which was the emphasis on the moral obligation incumbent upon the rich and developed countries to contribute more to assist the least developed countries, as well as the call for more international humanitarian cooperation and solidarity as the only way to face the grave challenges and unprecedented structural obstacles afflicting the world.
The suffering of hundreds of millions in the least developed countries, which include poverty, food insecurity, healthcare and education, must a matter of concern for everyone. Addressing this unjust situation, reducing the gap between developed countries and least developed countries, and finding radical solutions is a human and moral duty, and a collective task and shared responsibility among all countries, Al-Sharq concluded.

In turn, Lusail newspaper said that the State of Qatar always stands at the forefront of countries supporting the least developed countries, considering that its hosting of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) comes from its belief in the need to pay the greatest attention to responding to the needs of these countries, noting that this vision coincides with HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani affirmation on Sunday on the need to intensify international cooperation to help those countries, as HH said on Twitter "Moral responsibility obliges us to help the least developed countries, and this is what I emphasized during my speech at the Fifth United Nations Conference on these countries. Our world today is afflicted with grave challenges and un-precedented structural obstacles, from which there is no way out except through more international cooperation and solidarity."
The newspaper hailed HH the Amir's words and the main axes included in His Highness's speech at the opening of the conference, which draws a road map for international action to help the least developed countries. It added that HH the Amir said that confronting food security challenges, climate change, energy crisis and debt crisis is a joint global liability, while finding solutions is a shared collective task and responsibility among all countries.
The paper also referred to HH's announcement of a financial contribution of a total amount of US$60 million to support the implementation of the Doha Program of Action activities for the least developed countries and to build resilience potential in these countries.
It indicated that the UN conference constitutes a pivotal step to fulfill the commitments made in the Doha Program of Action for the benefit of the least developed countries, and to translate the ambitious promises, measures and commitments contained in the program into practical actions, by strengthening partnerships and collective action of the international community, to bring about the desired transformation in the lives of the people of these countries.
Lusail concluded by saying that the State of Qatar, through its hosting of the conference and its continuous support for the United Nations and its various organizations, has cemented its international position as the capital of international cooperation and mobilization of potentials in order to face the challenges facing humanity, as it believes in the need to stand together to solve global crises, especially in marginalized societies, and devotes all its donations to the United Nations and international organizations to support the implementation of UN goals, particularly in the least developed countries.
Al-Arab daily also noted HH the Amir's speech at the opening of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), saying that it was comprehensive and inclusive, as it highlighted the challenges presently facing the world, the most important of which is the global food security crisis, climate change phenomenon, lingering impacts of Covid-19 pandemic, energy crisis, and debt crisis.
HH the Amir, the paper said, laid down in his speech a rule for achieving security, stability and growth in the world, which is "international human solidarity", with the need for the world to turn to solidarity in order to avoid all crises and challenges.
The newspaper considered that His Highness's presidency of the conference would have an impact on the role of the UN Conference in supporting least developed countries, noting in this regard that the observers of the conference praised the announcement of HH the Amir to provide a financial contribution of a total amount of USD 60 million, of which USD 10 million will be allocated to support the implementation of the activities of the Doha Program of Action for the benefit of the least developed countries, and an amount of USD 50 million will be allocated to support the expected results of the Doha Program of Action and build resilience capacities in the least developed countries.
The paper explained that there is a consensus among the international figures who attended the conference, that Qatar's current contribution is one of many other contributions made by the State for the benefit of the least developed countries, noting Qatar's efforts during the Corona pandemic and its assistance to these countries to help them overcome the crisis that swept the world.
The newspaper expressed hope that the State of Qatar's announcement of this contribution would prompt the development partners in the world to follow the example of the Qatari humanitarian role, and to take the initiative to provide the necessary support for the Doha Program of Action for the least developed countries.
In conclusion, Al-Arab stressed that peoples of the least developed countries have high expectations that the Doha Conference will solve their issues of poverty and development, noting that Qatar will remain a role model in supporting international humanitarian and development efforts through many strategic contributions and partnerships, and by adopting many humanitarian initiatives, solving issues and crises through dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and standing by the countries most in need of aid.
