GOPAC President Highlights to QNA Qatar's Majors Anti-Corruption Role

Doha, March 08 (QNA) - HE President of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri affirmed that the State of Qatar plays a major role in promoting the fight against corruption in partnership with the United Nations.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency hailed the large turnout in today's 2023 parliamentary dialogue on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), and the GOPAC annual general meeting as an evidence and great indicator that the world has confidence in the State of Qatar, and its true support for anti-corruption issues.
His Excellency said that the 2023 Parliamentary Dialogue on the UNCAC focuses on the issue of dialogue between parliamentarians worldwide, through the GOPAC, and that this dialogue focuses on activating the UNCAC and the role of parliaments and creating appropriate legislation to activate these agreements. His Excellency also indicated that most countries signed the UNCAC, but there are other laws that must be issued by these countries to activate this agreement, and that today's dialogue urges countries to issue the necessary legislation to activate this agreement because what is happening on the ground is still far from what the UNCAC aspires to.
The GOPAC brings together parliamentarians from all over the world, and aims to activate the role of parliamentarians in everything related to corruption issues, especially since parliamentarians, His Excellency said.
His Excellency hailed the State of Qatar's hosting the GOPAC presidency provides good support to this organization, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved unless corruption is fought, with the aim of preserving the capacities of future generations.
His Excellency also highlighted that the HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award came to support the activities of corruption fighters around the world, who need real support, praising the award, which has become a great outlet, to highlight the parties who are facing corruption in isolated places of the world, referring to the partnership between the UN and the State of Qatar in this regard.
