Qatar's Planning And Statistics Authority: 644 Building Permits Issued in February

Doha, March 13 (QNA) - The number of building permits issued by all municipalities of the State in February 2023 showed a general decrease of 11% to 644 permits as compared to 721 permits issued in January 2023. A press release by Planning and Statistics Authority said: "Comparing number of permits issued in February 2023 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 11%. The decrease was noted in most of the municipalities: Al Sheehaniya (68%), Al Shammal (53%), Al Khor (34%), Al Wakrah (21%), Al Rayyan (13%), Al Doha (4%), On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Um Slal (47%), Al Da'ayen (11%)." In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of February 2023, according to their geographical distribution, municipality of Al Rayyan came at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 156 permits, i.e. 24% of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 135 permits, i.e. 21%, followed by Al Wakrah municipality with 127 permits, i.e.20%, then municipality of Al Da'ayen with 123 permits, i.e.19%. The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Um Slal 56 permits (9%), Al Khor 29 permits (5%), Al Sheehaniya 10 permits (2%), and finally Al Shammal 8 permits (1%). In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 39% (251 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of February 2023, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 57% (366 permits), and finally fencing permits with 4% (27 permits). By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, villas' permits topped the list, accounting for 82% (164 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by apartments buildings permits by 11% (22 permits) and dwellings of housing loans permits and other residential building permits by 4% (7 permits) each. On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 47% (24 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops/factories with 29% (15 permits), then mosques with 16% (8 permits). Comparing number of certificates issued in February 2023 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 11%. This decrease was clearly noted in most of the municipalities: Al Shammal (40%), Al Doha (30%), Al Rayyan (23%), Al Da'ayen (17%), On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Al Khor (143%), Um Slal (21%), Al Sheehaniya (14%), Al Wakrah (5%). In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of February 2023, according to their geographical distribution, Al Wakrah municipality came at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 83 certificates, i.e. (24%) of the total issued certificates, while municipality of Al Rayyan came in second place with 79 certificates, i.e. (23%), followed by municipality of Al Da'ayen with 67 certificates (20%), then municipality of Al Doha with 57 certificates, i.e.17%. The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 29 certificates 8%, Al Khor 17 certificates (5%), Al Sheehaniya 8 certificates (2%), Al Shammal 3 certificates 1%. In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 78% (268 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of February 2023, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 22% (75 certificates). By analyzing new residential buildings completion certificates data, villas' topped the list, accounting for 86% (181 certificates) of all new residential building's completion certificates, followed by other residential buildings by 5% (11 certificates), then dwellings of housing loans and apartments buildings certificates by 4% (9 certificates). On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates with 52% (30 certificates), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 28% (16 certificates), then mosques with 10% (6 certificates). Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy. The release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.
