PRESIDENT CONCERNED OVER CRASH OF MILY HELICOPTER
Magelang, June 13 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono express concern over the crash of an Air Force helicopter in which two passengers were killed in Bogor, West Java, on Friday.
"President Yudhoyono is waiting for a report from the Air Force chief and the commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) on the crash. We are saddened by every accident," Presidential Spokesman Andi Mallarangang said here on Friday.
He said that the president had on several occasions reminded that TNI personnel should always pay full attention to the weather and make a proper preparations before using a main weaponry equipment facility.
"But the president is now waiting for a report on the accident. Possibly he has now already received the report," the presidential spokesman said.
On whether the president would change his campaign schedule here after the incident, Andi said that matter would be decided after the president received a report.
"At least we are waiting for a prilimary report," he added.
An Air Force Puma helicopter crashed at 2.15 pm during a test flight on Friday at the Atang Sendjaya airbase in Bogor, West Java, killing two and injuring five of the seven servicemen on board, Indonesian Air Force spokesman Commodore Bambang Soelistyo said.
"The Helicopter was carrying seven people, including the pilot and co-pilot, while doing the test flight," he said.
The dead victims were identified as Chief Sergeant Catur and First Sergeant Dodi.
Five other servicemen who were on board the aircraft suffered severe injuries and were identified as Major Sobiq Fanani, First Lt. Wisnu, Second Lt. Ronny, Chief Sergeant Efran and Chief Sergeant Ferdinand.
The ill-fated chopper of the "8 Air Squadron" based at Atang Sanjaya was piloted by Maj. Sobiq Fanani and assisted by First Lt. Visnu. Its five passengers were technicians, the head of the Air Force's flight and work safety division, Commodore I Wayan Suwitra, said.
Earlier, on June 8, two servicemen were also killed in an Army helicopter crash in Rawabeber village in Cianjur district, West Java.
