KALLA TO SOLVE MILY HARDWARE PROBLEM IN THREE MONTHS` TIME
Pekanbaru, Indonesia, June 13 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirant Jusuf Kalla promised he would solve the problem of procuring military hardware (alutsista) badly needed by Indonesia's armed forces in three months' time if he wins the upcoming presidential poll.
"I promise to settle the 'alutsista' problem within three months," Kalla said on his way by air for a campaign tour from Banda Aceh to Pekanbaru on Saturday.
Kalla made the comment after an Air Force Puma helicopter crashed at the Atang Sendjaya airbase in Bogor, West Java, on Friday (June 12) killing two and injuring five of the seven servicemen it was carrying.
The helicopter crashed at about 02:15 pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB) during a test flight, Indonesian Air Force spokesman Commodore Bambang Soelistyo said.
Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto (JK-Win) is one of three presidential and vice presidential aspirant pairs who will vie in the second direct presidential race in July 8, 2009.
According to Kalla, it was actually easy to cope with the military (TNI)'s Alutsista procurement problem.
It needs courage to take decision and a struggle to seek network to procuring the alutsista, he disclosed.
Citing an example, Jusuf Kalla said when he decided to procure some 150 new armored vehicles, it was accomplished without using state budget funds.
"Do not always depend on the state budget. Only the courage and the network are needed. So it is easy," Kalla said.
Regarding the Alutsista issue, he said , it had to do with three points namely, the availability of spare parts, routine maintenance and the purchase of new equipment.
"This can be settled in three months. At least it takes six months to settle the entire alutsista problem," said Kalla.
Kalla was furious due to the recent crashes of some military aircraft in the country.
All the cases must be solved immediately, Kalla said, explaining that the president actually can issue a reserve budget to settle this problem.
"What is really needed is the courage to take decisions," Jusuf Kalla added.
Earlier, on June 8, two servicemen were also killed in an Army helicopter crash in Rawabeber village in Cianjur district, West Java. ***
