SOME 36 PERCENT OF NEEDED BALLOT PAPERS STILL UNPRINTED

Jakarta, June 15 (ANTARA) - As per Monday (June 15) as many as 65 million or 38 percent of a total of 160 million ballot papers needed for the July 8 presidential election , have yet to be printed an election commission official said.

General Elections Commission (KPU) Secretary General Suripto Bambang Setyadi said here on Monday, 115.51 million or 64 percent of the needed ballot papers had already been printed.

He said the printing of the remaining ballot papers for the July 8 presidential election would be completed on Tuesday, and the distribution to districts and municipalities across the country would be completed on June 25, 2009.

"We hope the distribution of all election logistics will be completed on June 25, 2009," Setyadi said after attending a KPU meeting.

According to a report to the election logistics procurement committee, seven of the 18 printing companies contracted to do the printing had fulfilled their orders.
The seven companies, according to Bambang Setyadi, were PT Lancar Abadi Jaya, Mega Indah, Rizky Grafis, Dian Rakyat, Harapan Baru, Indah Jaya, and Sarana Panca Karya Nusa.

He expressed hope that the sorting and distribution of the ballot papers to the districts and municipalities would run well.

According to Law No 42/2008 on presidential elections, election logistics should reach the polling stations one day before the election at the latest.

"The sorting of the ballot papers for the presidential election is not as difficult as that for the recent legislative elections and therefore there will be no problem in the process," he said.

Suripto said the distribution of election logistics to areas relatively difficult to reach such as Papua, West Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, and Riau Islands Province had already been completed.

"The distribution of election logistics is done by air transportation to speed up the process," Setyiadi said. ***
