In an editorial entitled "Beloved Palestine.. Qatar's First Case", Al-Raya newspaper said: "After 75 years of the Nakba, Palestine remains present in our hearts. It is Qatar's foremost cause and the cornerstone of the Qatari foreign policy. Qatar will not compromise the rights of Palestinians and will continue to defend and advocate for our brotherly people until they achieve their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state on the borders of June 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return which is a fundamental right guaranteed by international law."
The newspaper underlined that the letter HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani addressed to the high-level meeting of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, affirms Qatar's steadfast and supportive stance towards the just Palestinian cause which deserves the world's efforts to end the occupation and restore rights to its people. HH the Amir emphasized in his letter that the catastrophic effects of the Nakba continue to this day, and millions of Palestinians suffer from it, including refugees, who still cling to their right to return to their country from which they were unjustly expelled.
Despite 75 years since the Nakba and 56 years of the Israeli occupation, and despite the United Nations resolutions and the international community's consensus on the illegitimacy of the occupation, this occupation continues with its illegitimate practices, including settlements in the occupied territories, attempts to annex Palestinian land, demolishing Palestinian properties, and suppressing and depriving the Palestinian people of their rights and natural resources. The attacks on their holy sites have escalated, restricting the access of Muslims and Christians to worship freely and unrestrictedly in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the occupied churches of Jerusalem, the paper concluded.
Under the headline "Honorable Qatari Stances", Al-Arab newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar's efforts to ensure the continuity of the ceasefire in Gaza remain a prominent sign in this direction. Doha has remained at the heart of communications between regional and international powers to restore calm in the Palestinian territories and halt Israeli aggression on the sector.
It is not a coincidence that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani addressed a letter to the high-level meeting of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, which was held on Monday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Qatar remains present alongside those in need of support and assistance or those facing injustice and persecution, the newspaper added.
The Palestinian cause and Qatar's support for it are a constant theme in all rounds of talks and meetings of His Highness, in addition to his conversations with world leaders. The Palestinian developments and the rights of the Palestinian people remain present in all His Highness's speeches before international and regional gatherings, where he places the world and the international community in front of their responsibilities towards Palestine and its cause, Al-Arab noted.
The newspaper concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar's stances will remain present, driven by human principles and values, to support the resilience of the Palestinian people. Qatar's past and current positions on this just cause are honorable and are the strongest among all nations, as described by many sons of the Palestinian people.
For its part, English newspaper The Peninsula said that Palestinians commemorated the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Nakba on Monday, which occurred when Israel was established on May 14, 1948, following the end of British Mandate in the region.
Under the title "Palestinians Remember and Fight On", the newspaper said that around 750,000 Palestinians were reportedly expelled from their homes and lands. Today, Israel continues its oppression of Palestinians with its expansion policies of settlements. It affects services they can access, where they can travel, and where they can live. Jobs are scarce, and the threat of escalation of violence is constant.
HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in a letter addressed to the high-level meeting of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, cited the increased violence against the Palestinians in recent months and the occupation’s persistent disregard for resolutions by the UN and the international community’s consensus on the illegality of the occupation. HH the Amir expressed Qatar’s strong condemnation and denunciation of any attempts to Judaize Jerusalem and change its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity, The Peninsula noted.
The newspaper concluded by saying that it is essential to remember that the Nakba doesn’t just represent a historical phenomenon; the process continues today and is yet to stop. (QNA)
