Qatar's CPI Records Annual Increase of 3.68% in April 2023

Doha, May 17 (QNA) - The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the State of Qatar rose by 3.68% y-o-y in April 2023, reaching 105.52 points. On m-o-m basis, the CPI showed a decrease by 0.03% when compared to CPI of March 2023.
The CPI - which measures inflation - includes 12 main groups of consumer goods that have a total of 737 commodities and services. It is calculated using the base year 2018 based on the data of the household income and expenditure survey 2017-2018.
A comparison of the CPI of April 2023 with the CPI of April 2022 (Annual Change), the increase was primary due to the prices rising in eight groups namely: Recreation and Culture by 15.34%, followed by Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel by 7.72%, Furniture and Household Equipment by 2.87%, Clothing and Footwear by 2.49%, Food and Beverages by 1.71%. Education by 1.64%, Health by 1.41%, and Transport by 0.60%.
A decrease has been shown in price levels in Communication by 4.04%, Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 1.65%, and Restaurants and Hotels by 0.08%. No changes recorded on Tobacco.
When comparing the main components of the CPI of April 2023 with the previous month (Monthly change), there was a decrease in seven groups, namely: Transport by 2.29%, followed by Clothing and Footwear by 1.05%, Education by 0.94%, Restaurants and Hotels by 0.74%, Health by 0.25%, Communication by 0.21%, and Food and Beverages by 0.19%.
An increase has been recorded in: Furniture and Household Equipment by 4.43%, followed by Recreation and Culture by 1.32%, Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.32%, and Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel by 0.07%. Tobacco had remained flat at the last months price level.
The CPI of April 2023 excluding Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel group stands at 107.38 points, recording a decrease by 0.04% when compared to the index of March 2023, and an increase by 2.74% when compared with counterpart in 2022. (QNA)
