MOCI Marks World Intellectual Property Day

 
 
Doha, May 17 (QNA) - The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) celebrated World Intellectual Property Day, under the slogan 'Women and Intellectual Property: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity', as part of its commitment to promoting dialogue on the importance of intellectual property and enhancing its role in developing an environment that encourages and stimulates innovation and creativity in society.
The event aims to highlight Qatar's efforts in the field of intellectual property and the initiatives that have been launched to provide the necessary mechanisms to protect all female creators, whether they are inventors, authors, or producers of technical, artistic or literary works, and motivate them to be creative and innovative, in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
In her opening speech, Director of the MOCI's Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department, Amna Jaber Al Kuwari stressed the importance of supporting intellectual property rights and expanding the knowledge base of these rights in the State of Qatar, noting that the large participation in the celebration reflects the interest of the commercial and industrial sectors by spreading awareness of these rights to preserve the creativity of young men and women of change and development makers.
She called on decision and public policy makers in the country to review and update intellectual property legislation in line with international practices, noting that there are national efforts to develop a national strategy for intellectual property, which is the approach endorsed by the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Investment and Trade Court has been dedicated under Law No. 21 of 2021 for hearings on disputes related to patents, trademarks, industrial models, trade secrets and other intellectual property rights, Al Kuwari said, hailing the move as an evidence of the great interest the State of Qatar attaches to these rights. She added that the State of Qatar has been a signatory to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) since 2011, which constituted a window for local inventors to access 156 member states of the Convention, in addition to access to a large amount of technical information in various fields. On the sidelines of the celebration, an accompanying exhibition was inaugurated, in which participants from various parties, including schools and authors, displayed their inventions and innovations in various fields. 
The celebration also saw panel discussions on a range of topics including the role of women in the creation of intellectual property and the encouragement of investment, the importance of intellectual property in various fields of life, in addition to discussing the role of intellectual property in national efforts to empower innovative women for a better future.
