RI, IRAN TO COOPERATE IN WOMEN`S EMPOWERMENT
Jakarta, June 16 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Iran will cooperate in the empowerment of women in the two countries, an Indonesian minister said.
"A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the cooperation in the empowerment of women between the two countries is now being prepared," Minister for Women's Empowerment Meutia Hatta said here on Tuesday.
The minister made the remarks after delivering a key note address at a seminar on justice equality and the Iranian Indonesian women's roles in economic and social development.
The seminar was held during an Iranian-Indonesian women's week and fine arts exhibition staged by women of the two countries.
Minister Meutia Hatta said the activities were held as a preliminary event before the MoU was signed in Iran.
But at present preparations for the signing of the cooperation on the empowerment of women between the two countries were still being made.
"We are making comprehensive preparations so that the Iranian and Indonesia women would make progress," the minister said.
Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Behrooz Kamalvandi meanwhile expressed gratitude for the holding of the friendship week held for the first time between the women of Indonesia and Iran.
He said that Indonesia's relations with Iran in the formal and informal sectors had been established well. Progresses have been made in the political and economic fields.
The ambassador said that the event was held to introduce the peoples of both nations to each other. The people of Iran, like their Indonesian counterpart, have high spirit, he added.
He said in Muslim predominantly populated countries, women could make progress so that they should be empowered.
last week, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been reelected to the presidential post and Indonesia is ready to continue the existing bilateral cooperation with Iran.
Foreign affairs ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said on Sunday that the Indonesian government welcome the victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and was ready to continue bilateral cooperation.***
