KAPSARC also won the OPEC Scientific Award for the best research paper in energy for 2023, a study related to the stability of oil markets, written by acting Vice President for Knowledge and Analysis Axel Pierru and researchers Hossa Al-Mutairi and James Smith. The award was accepted by Pierru on behalf of his team.
These two prestigious awards are the first of their kind to be awarded by OPEC, and they reflect KAPSARC's excellence in the field of scientific research.
OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al-Ghais congratulated KAPSARC and its researchers for receiving these two well-deserved awards amid fierce competition, noting that the center has become a globally recognized center in research and studies related to energy and sustainability issues, and is a reliable partner to many research institutes and political organizations around the world. Al-Ghais also praised the center’s analytical studies, which are conducted at the highest level of quality, innovation, cooperation, and objectivity to find solutions to global challenges in energy.
KAPSARC president Fahad Al-Ajlan expressed his pride in this global recognition, which adds to the center’s record of achievements, expressing his thanks to OPEC and the Special Committee for their appreciation of its latest research.

He said KAPSARC is distinguished by its combination of both practical experience and unique academic and methodological disciplines aimed at overcoming the challenges facing the energy and sustainability sectors.
