Saudi Arabia to Participate in High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023 in New York

Riyadh, July 06, 2023, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will participate in the United Nations High-level Political Forum 2023 (HLPF) from July 10-19, 2023, in New York. Held annually to assess global efforts to achieve sustainable development, the HLPF draws countries together to review their progress in delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Kingdom's delegation, headed by His Excellency the Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal F. Alibrahim, will include representatives from 22 government entities, private sector companies, and a representative from the non-profit sector organizations.
This year, Saudi Arabia will submit its second Voluntary National Review (VNR) reporting on progress against SDG indicators.
The Saudi delegation will include the ministries of Economy and Planning; Energy; Foreign Affairs; Education; Environment, Water and Agriculture; Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing; Communications and Information Technology; and Tourism. In addition, representatives from the Public Investment Fund, the General Authority for Statistics, the Digital Government Authority, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the Madinah Region Development Authority, the Saudi Irrigation Organization, Saline Water Conversion Corporation, the Quality of Life Program, and the National Center for Wildlife, along with Saudi Aramco, the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), NEOM, the Saudi Telecom Company (stc), and the King Khalid Foundation. During the participation, the Kingdom will present its second voluntary national review on its efforts and progress in achieving the sustainable development goals, which was collaboratively prepared by more than 100 local and international entities.
The Kingdom will also hold four side events and an exhibition on the forum's sidelines. These include:
* Circular Carbon Economy: A Sustainable Framework for Managing Carbon Emissions: organized by the Ministry of Energy and with the participation of Aramco and SABIC.
* Leveraging Technologies for SDG Advancement: organized by the Ministry of Economy and Planning and with the participation of the General Authority for Statistics, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Saudi Telecom Company (stc).
* Putting Quality of Life at the Heart of Saudi Arabia's Efforts Towards SDG 11: organized by the Quality of Life Program and with the participation of the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the Madinah Regional Development Authority, and the King Khalid Foundation.
* Saudi National Water Strategy: organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Saudi Irrigation Organization, and the Saline Water Conversion Corporation.
* "The Line" Exhibition: Organized by NEOM.
The forum has been held annually since 2015 under the auspices of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has participated in the forum's work annually since 2017.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presented its first Voluntary National Review while participating in the 2018 HLPF. The delegation was led by His Excellency the Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal F. Alibrahim, who presented the VNR, which reviewed Saudi Arabia's accomplishments and progress towards achieving the SDGs.
