YUDHOYONO EXPECTED TO EXCEL IN CANDIDATES` DEBATE
Jakarta, June 18 (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to perform excellently in presenting his vision and mission in the presidential candidates' debate on Thursday night.
"We are optimistic that Yudhoyono will excel in the presidential candidates' debate tonight," Democratic Party' Associate Chairman Anas Urbaningrum said here on Thursday.
Urbanigrum also expressed hope that the moderator in the debate, Anis Baswedan of Paramadina University, would do his job well tonight in digging the vision and mission of the presidential candidates.
"We also hope that all presidential candidates will be able to give their best possible performance in presenting their programs for the next five years," Urbaningrum said.
The first presidential debate, organized by the General Elections Commission (KPU), will be broadcast live by a private TV station tonight and to be participated in by three presidential candidates, namely Megawati Soekarnoputri, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and Jusuf Kalla.
The debate will be conducted five times : three times for the presidential candidates on June 18, 25, and July 2, and two times for the vice presidential candidates on June 23, 30, 2009.
The first KPU-organized presidential candidates' debate is themed "To Realize Good and Clean Governance Management and to Enforce Human Rights and Legal Supremacy."
Meanwhile, Firman Jaya Daeli, a spokesman of the Megawati-Prabowo ticket, said here on Thursday that presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri had not made any special preparation for the debate.
"There is, of course, some preparation but it is no way special," Daeli said at the General Election Commission (KPU) building.
He said Megawati and her running mate Prabowo were ready for the debate but they had not made any special preparation because it was not something new for them.
"Both Megawati and Prabowo are used to dialogs and discussions in various forums," Daeli said.
According to Daeli, the Mega-Prabowo national campaign team appreciated the organization of the debates because it was part of political openness and education for the people.
"We highly appreciate the holding of the presidential and vice presidential candidates' debate," he said, adding that in the 90-minute debates, each presidential candidate would be given the opportunity to explain his or her vision and mission for seven to 10 minutes.***
