MARCH AGAINST CHILD LABOR IN JAKARTA ON SUNDAY

Jakarta, June 18 (ANTARA) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) in Indonesia will organize a national march against child labor at the West Gate of Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday (June 21).

The national march against child labor would be organized in cooperation with the Indonesian government, national labor confederations, academic institutions, and NGOs, a press statement from the ILO Jakarta Office said here on Thursday.

The march will start from Atma Jaya University and the national education ministry. More than 1,500 people, including ex-child laborers from various organizations will walk to Senayan Main Stadium, declaring their aspirations for a future with access to quality education, with children's rights, and without child labor.

Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno and State Minister for Women's Empowerment Meutia Hatta will open the march officially.

The march is organized in conjunction with the commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labour on 12th June, and will mark the long journey and efforts in the fight against child labor and reaching a future wihout child labor.

The event will also mark the tenth anniversary of the adoption of ILO Convention No. 182, which addresses the need for action to tackle the worst forms of Child labor. This year, under the theme "Give Girls a Chance - End Child Labour", the World Day Against Child Labour will highlight the continuing challenges, with a focus on exploitation of girls in child labor.
