MINISTER TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR SPORTS WEEK PREPARATIONS IN RIAU
Pekanbaru, Indonesia, June 19 (ANTARA) - Acting Chief Economic Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has promised to provide funds for preparations of the 18th National Sports Week (PON) to be held in Riau in 2010.
"I have received a request from the Riau governor and we will check it whether it is possible for us to provide a fund for the PON event," the minister said when she opened the 11th National Appropriate Technology Expo and Service Month VI here on Friday.
She said that the fund for the PON could be taken from the 2009 revised regional budget and the 2010 state budget. The relevant ministry will be assigned to study the provision of the fund.
But she did not mention a figure on the amount of the fund that could be provided to help finance the preparations of the national sports week.
Riau Governor Rusli Zainal has said that the government should not have the idea that Riau no longer needed assistance because it was a rich province.
He said that Riau hoped the government would provide financial assistance for the development of sport infrastructure facilities.
The governor hoped that the fund would be allocated through the 2010 and 2011 state budgets.
Rusli Zainal said that the 18th National Sports Week would, according to plan, be held in six districts / regions in Riau province, including Pekanbaru, Kampar district, Siak district, Pelalawan district, Indragiri Hulu district and Rokan Hulu district.***
