C SULAWESI TO HOST ASEAN YOUTH DIVING COMPETITION
Palu, Indonesia, June 19 (ANTARA) - Central Sulawesi will hold an ASEAN Youth Diving Competition in July 2010, to promote the province's marine tourism.
The diving competition was expected to be participated in by a number of young people from the ten member countries of ASEAN (Association of the Southeast Nations), Suaib Djafar, head of the Central Sulawesi tourism office, said here on Friday.
ASEAN groups Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.
Young divers from Indonesia's 33 provinces and Central Sulawesi's 12 districts/cities would also take part in the event, he said.
The competition's activities will also include a nature scenery painting contest, an under sea photography contest, a yacht contest, a culinary festival, and an ASEAN art and cultural festival.
"We have promoted the planned competition during the BIMP-EAGA
(Brunai-Indonesia-Malaysia-The Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area) Games in 2008, and it got positive responses from the participating countries," he said.
The competition will be held on Togian Islands, Tojo Una-una District, a diving touristic object which is known for its beautiful coral reefs, and in Palu, the capital city of Central Sulawesi.
Central Sulawesi has also be designated to be the host of a tourism promotion event called "Sparkling Sulawesi" in 2010.
"Sparkling Sulawesi" has been included in the national tourism calender and advertised overseas, according to Djafar.
The event to be held in Palu, will promote and exhibit tourism potentials and culinary of all provinces on Sulawesi Island which comprise South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and North Sulawesi.
Central Sulawesi Province is beautiful region with its mountain; lakes and dales decorate this area.
More than 1.893 million tourists visited Indonesia in the first four months of 2009, up 1.53 percent from the same period last year.***
