PRABOWO SIGNS POLITICAL CONTRACTS WITH SMALL PEOPLE
Cirebon, Indoneia, June 20 (ANTARA) - Vice presidential aspirant Parabowo Subianto signed political contracts with farmers, fishermen and rattan craftsmen during a campaign meeting at the Gebang fish auction hall here on Saturday.
With the farmers, the vice presidential candidate from the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) signed a political agreement to ensure the unhusked paddy basic price, fertilizer supply, seeds with good quality, irrigation infrastructure, and to expand market access.
In his agreement with the fishermen, Prabowo would give special attention to their fate, give them special diesel oil subsidy, stabilize fish prices, and help them to gain access to capital.
And with the rattan craftsmen, Prabowo promised to revoke Trade Minister's Regulation No.12/2005 on export of raw rattan and expansion of overseas rattan markets.
On the occasion, Prabowo said he was the only vice presidential candidate who dared to make political contracts with farmers, fishermen, and rattan craftsmen because he wanted to give them the best thing if he was elected vice president in the upcoming July 8 poll.
"These political contracts are to prove that we have promised to give the people the best things the government can give them," Prabowo said, adding that farmers, fishermen, and rattan craftsmen should be empowered so that their professions could absorb as many people as possible.
Meanwhile, Cirebon fishermen spokesman Dade Mustofa said the political contract was expected to improve their economic condition in the future.
"As fishermen, we want to be free from the trap of debt, to have our own boats and be able to improve our welfare," Dade Mustofa said.
A similar statement was made by Sumartja who represented the farmers and rattan craftsmen. He said that with government assistance, their future fate should be better than today.
He expressed hope that presidential aspirant Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto would make a significant change in the country if they win the July presidential election.***
