Minister of Energy: Saudi Arabia Can be a Source of Clean Hydrogen, Electricity Production

Riyadh, October 08, 2023, SPA -- Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud took part in the ministerial panel titled "Advancing Inclusivity and Circularity for Just and Equitable Energy Transitions", held on the first day of the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week 2023.
Other panelists were UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil of Iraq Hayan Abdulghani AlSawad and Minister of Climate Change of Pakistan Ahmad Irfan Islam.
The Saudi minister said that the Kingdom has the potential to capture and store carbon, stressing that it is very important for the Kingdom, the GCC countries and Iraq to have sufficient investments to ensure the operation of novel technologies. He also said that success in this regard stands to benefit all, and will meet the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement.
"The Kingdom can be a source of clean hydrogen and a producer/source of clean electricity as well," he said, adding that the Kingdom has adopted a comprehensive approach that harnesses all the potential to generate energy from renewable sources, produce hydrogen, distribution lines and pipelines, and transmit electricity.
The panelists stressed that joint financing is crucial, and highlighted the importance of making use of technology, and using green hydrogen and the tools needed to reach global future goals. They also underscored the need for developed countries to work on projects that reduce carbon emissions.
They also stated that inter-country cooperation in projects related to clean energy, and new technology aimed at reducing thermal emissions and the carbon footprint is of great significance, and expressed hope hat climate change summits will contribute to launching projects that reduce carbon emissions.
As they concluded their discussion, the participants emphasized that the world has to find a better way of thinking, and they underlined the importance of technology, which can contribute to the way energy is used without affecting the environment.
