Saudi Arabia, US, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) with the African Union Relaunch Talks between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Jeddah

Riyadh, October 29, 2023, SPA -- The facilitators, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States, the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), and the African Union, have issued the following statement regarding the ongoing talks between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Jeddah:
"The facilitators convened talks between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Jeddah. The objective of these talks is to address specific issues, including:
1. Facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
2. Establishing ceasefires and implementing confidence-building measures.
3. Working towards achieving a permanent cessation of hostilities.
The talks will not address broader political issues.
With the agreement of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the facilitators will be the official sole joint spokesperson of the talks and establish the rules of conduct, agreed upon by the parties, that will guide the talks.
The negotiations will take place in Jeddah, with delegations representing the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Both sides will participate as members of their respective delegations.
