Amman, October 20, 2023, SPA -- Advisor to the Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, inaugurated yesterday in Amman six projects aiming to support Syrian refugees and the host communities with food, shelter, and health requirements.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Kingdom's ambassador to Jordan, Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, Secretary-General of the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization Dr. Hussein Al-Shibli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Center, Dr. Rajai Al-Muasher, representatives of international, regional and local organizations working in the humanitarian field, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Delivering a speech on this occasion, Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed his pleasure to visit Jordan and share the great responsibility toward Syrian refugees, commending Jordan for hosting them and for the important role it plays in caring for them and ensuring they lead a decent living.
He said that Saudi Arabia has been keen to provide relief support to the Syrian people ever since the beginning of the humanitarian crisis in their country, be it by hosting Syrian refugees in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and providing them with the necessary services, including free health care, participation in the labour market and access to education for their children, by supporting millions of Syrian refugees in countries neighbouring Syria and beyond, including in Lebanon, Turkiye, Jordan, Greece, and Malaysia, in coordination with the local governments, or by implementing relief projects in areas of need in Syria, in cooperation with UN and international organizations.
He added that KSrelief aid efforts are an embodiment of the consistent policy pursued by the Saudi government, which attaches great importance to humanitarian work to the benefit of all people affected by disasters, conflicts, and wars, through support and assistance.
He added that the Saudi aid to those in need amounts to $123.2 billion until now, distributed among 167 countries, of which $6.4 billion is the amount spent by the centre in implementing 2,587 projects in 94 countries, in cooperation with 175 UN, international and regional partners.
Al Rabeeah said: "As a continuation of this role, we are pleased to sign and launch today a package of food, shelter, and health requirements projects for Syrian refugees worth $19.5 million, bringing the total amount provided to them, whether in Saudi Arabia or outside, to over $6 billion, of which over $162, million to implement 121 projects in Jordan."
He added that his visit is came under challenging circumstances for the world, particularly for the Arab region, due to the disasters and crises that have befallen it.
He also said that the suffering people pin their hopes on humanitarian organizations whose members put their lives at risk on the front lines and in areas of conflict to save people, and help and protect those in need without compromising on the humanitarian principles based on which they work.
The KSrelief Supervisor General stressed the importance of collective responsibility to support humanitarian organizations committed to help those in need and called for concerted efforts, on the part of the international community, to protect humanitarian work teams against violations. He also emphasized the importance of protecting and supporting defenceless civilians, especially children, women and the elderly.
He expressed hope that God Almighty will help efforts aiming to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian refugees in Jordan and assist concerned Jordanian authorities' endeavours to provide them with means of livelihood, and health and psychological services until the Syrian refugees return to their country to continue the process of construction and development.
