MEGAWATI, PRABOWO TO MAKE POLITICAL CONTRACT ON EDUCATION
Yogyakarta, June 22 (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Prabowo ticket) are ready to make a political contract on education in their grand campaign here on Wednesday.
"The focus of the Megawati and Prabowo campaign in Yogyakarta on Wednesday is on their commitment to make a political contract on the overall education system," Mega-Prabowo campaign team spokesman Djuwarto said here on Monday.
He said the focus of their campaign was in relevance with Yogyakarta as a city of education, students, and culture.
According to Djuwarto, Megawati was scheduled to make a political contract on education here on Wednesday morning before staging an outdoor campaign at Alun-Alun Utara (North Square) later in the day.
"The political contract on eduction was not effective only in Yogyakarta but also nationwide," Duwarto said, adding that in that political contract, the law on education legal entity (UU BHP) would be revoked.
Besides making a political contract on education, the Mega-Prabowo ticket for the July presidential election would also make a commitment to fight for Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) status.
"The outdoor campaign will be held at Alun-Alun Utara as the representative of their commitment to the special status of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY)," Djuwarto said.
During a campaign meeting at the Gebng fish auction hall in Cirebon, West Java, on Saturday, Megawati's running mate Prabowo also signed political a contract with the local farmers, fishermen, and rattan craftsmen.
With the farmers, the vice presidential candidate from the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) signed a political agreement to set the referance price of unhusked rice, fertilizer supply, good quality seeds, irrigation infrastructure, and to expand market access.
In his agreement with the fishermen, Prabowo would give special attention to their fate, give them special diesel oil subsidy, stabilize fish prices, and help them gain access to capital.
And with the rattan craftsmen, Prabowo promised to revoke Trade Minister's Regulation No.12/2005 on raw rattan exports and overseas rattan market expansion.
On the occasion, Prabowo said he was the only vice presidential candidate who had the courage to make political contracts with the farmers, fishermen, and rattan craftsmen because he wanted to give them the best if he was elected vice president in the upcoming July 8 poll.
