Turkish President receives Abdullah bin Zayed
Ankara - June 23, 2009 (WAM) - Turkish President Abdullah Gul, received here yesterday at Presidential Palace UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed the regards of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Turkish President. Meanwhile, the Turkish President conveyed to the UAE Foreign minister his regards to Sheikh Khalifa.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations and ways of boosting them. The meeting was attended by HE Khalid Ghanim Al Ghaith, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, UAE Ambassador to Turkey Khalid Khalifa Al Mualla and members of the delegation accompanying the UAE Foreign minister.
Sheikh Abdullah also met Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. They discussed cooperation and ways of enhancing it in all fields. He stressed at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart that the aim of his visit to Turkey was to explore trade and investment opportunities, as well as privatisation fields, adding that the UAE was seeking to bolster trade ties with Turkey.
On the Iranian elections, the UAE Foreign minister said, "The events in Iran are internal issues to be tackled by the Iranian government. Any interference is unacceptable. The UAE is one of the first countries, which congratulated President Ahmedinijad." Sheikh Abdullah said that the UAE and Turkey relations were growing, adding that "we are partners in cooperation, distinguished friendship and mutual interests". He noted that Turkey will host in next week’s the strategic meeting in Istanbul, gathering GCC countries and Turkey.
On the recent Iraq events in Kirkuk, Sheikh Abdullah denounced the tragic incidents which claimed the lives of innocent people. He consoled the bereaved families.
