SBY CAMP REMAINS CONFIDENT OF VICTORY IN ONE ROUND

Jakarta, June 23 (ANTARA) - The camp of presidential candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) remains confident SBY will win the presidential race on July 8 in just one round.

SBY campaign team member Andi Malarangeng, said when asked about the results of latest surveys showing a drop in SBY's electability, said here Tuesday "the result of our own survey still shows the electability of the SBY-Boediono pair to be still the highest and God willing, seeing these figures, the race will finish in one round."

Andi questioned the credibility of the recent surveys showing a decline in the SBY-Boediono ticket's electability.

"I majored political science. I am not convinced by polls that were carried out by people whose educational background I do not know or by institutions that have just recently emerged," he said.

He said he survey institutes such as Lingkaran Survei Indonesia, Lembaga Survey Indonesia or LP3ES more more trustworthy.

The result of a poll by Kompas daily recently also showed the SBY-Boediono duo to be still above the two other pairs.

"No significant change has occurred in the SBY-Boediono pair's electability, namely still around 60 percent or between 60 percent and 70 percent. And this, God willing, means the race will be completed in just one round. No drastic change will occur in the public's preference in the next two weeks and therefore we are very optimistic," he said.

The SBY-Boediono ticket would not only win 51 percent of the vote nation-wide but also 20 percent of the votes in the country's 33 provinces, making a run-off election unnecessary.

"If the people really wish the election to go in one round, it will not be impossible. So, in essence, if the people want it then that is what is going to happen. Anyway, based on the results of surveys so far, we are optimistic we will win," he said.***
