With Qatar's participation, Permanent Committee for Arab Culture Discusses Challenges of Joint Arab Cultural Work

Tunis, January 16 (QNA) - The Permanent Committee for Arab Culture in the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) approved the proposals of the State of Qatar related to organizing workshops on registering elements of intangible cultural heritage on the representative list of UNESCO and holding a workshop on culture and sustainability in conjunction with the International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha. This was part of a two-day meeting held by the committee at the organization's headquarters in the Tunisian capital, with the participation of the State of Qatar, represented by Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture Maryam Yassin Al Hammadi. The committee meeting was attended by HE Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs Dr. Hayat Guermazi, HE Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, and representatives of the Arab member states of ALECSO. The meeting comes in the context of preparations for the 24th session of the Conference of Arab Culture Ministers, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco later this year. Several topics were discussed, including developing joint cultural work and updating its paths in light of the review of sustainable development commitments 2030, and proposals related to mechanisms for classifying Arab cultural institutions, and mechanisms for selecting capitals of Arab culture, in addition to celebrating Tripoli as the capital of Arab culture for the year 2024. During the meeting, the participants stressed the great role played by the Permanent Committee for Arab Culture in promoting joint Arab cultural work, especially in light of the unprecedented circumstances experienced by the defenseless Palestinian people, which led to the obliteration of heritage, culture, architectural heritage, and all symbols of cultural memory. The importance of Arab cultural cooperation was also emphasized to develop a comprehensive and sustainable vision and policies that would contribute to cultural development as a major goal of sustainable development.
