INDONESIA FINISHES TENTH IN ASIA INTER-CLUB VOLLEYBALL C'SHIP
Jakarta, June 24 (ANTARA) - Indonesia represented by Samator Surabaya finally finished tenth at the Asia Inter-club Volleyball Championship in Al Nasr, Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday.
The Indonesians were beaten by Almaty Kazakhstan 0-3 (17-25, 17-25, 21-25).
Indonesian team manager Hari Trisnardjo said the achievement was poorer than it was two years ago in Bahrain, when the Indonesian team finished sixth only.
The Indonesian players are inferior in terms of posture compared with Almaty players and because of that their spike had often been blocked.
According to the Indonesian Volley Ball Association (PBVSI) spokesman, coach Li Qiujiang was forced to make changes when the Indonesian team lost 15-20 in the first set.
Changes were also made in the second set but their play still failed to develop. In the third set the coach fielded younger players.
In the third set the Indonesian team was able to fight but finally they had to give in at 21-25.
"The young players have proven to play better. I deliberately decided to field them in the final set to see their capability and it was proven they were good," Li Qiujiang said.
The Chinese coach said the young players needed more experience. "Their seniors have played at SEA Games and local events such as Proliga, National Games and national championships. So they could learn from those events," the Samator's coach said.
Li Qiujiang admitted that the Indonesian players were inferior in posture compared with the Almaty players. "They blocked well because they are much taller," Li who has been coaching since 1997 said.
AGMK from Uzbekistan ranked 11th out of 13 teams beating Baouchrieh Lebanon 3-1 (25-21,25-23, 23-25, 7-25).
The Indonesian national team had been groomed for the upcoming XVth SEA Games in Laos.
