ACEH PEACE MONITORING TEAM TO END MISSION JUNE 30

Banda Aceh, NAD, June 24 (ANTARA) - The peace monitoring team in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD), integrated in the Indonesia Peace Institute-Inter Peace-Aceh Program (IPI-IIAP) will end its task in the province on June 30, 2009, a spokesman said.

For more than two years, IPI in cooperation with international institution which was led by Martti Ahtisaari, former President of Finland in the process of peace in Aceh have done many things, IPI director, Ulla Nuchrawaty said here on Wednesday.

According to her, the tasks are to make the people more aware on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on August 15, 2005 by the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM).

The familiarization on the importance of peace sustainability aimed at rebuilding the province, has been communicated to the public, she said.

"We have familiarized and disseminated the importance of peace
program to all districts in Aceh," she said.

InterPeace as an international organization based in Geneva, Switzerland has a task to help monitor the peace process and the implementation of Law No.11/2006 on Aceh government, after the Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) leave the province.

Aceh Interpeace Representative, Juha Cristensen said, after two years working in fulfilling their tasks in Aceh, the institution has completed four important programs in the peace process.

"The four programs are preventive, promotional, currative and rehabilitation measures. Now we have collected data on what are needed by the community in the peace process," he said.

The spokesman said further that IPI will cooperate with the Peace Architechture and Conflict Tranformation Alliance (PACTA), which focus more on live skills and economic empowerment.

"We implement this program after seeing the results of assessment and needs in the field when carrying out the peace program," he said.

PACTA is a non governmental organization based in Helsinki.
