RI FOREIGN MINISTER TO VISIT CHINA TO STRENGTHEN TIES
Beijing, June 25 (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda is scheduled to visit China on July 1-2, 2009, to have talks with Chinese officials to strengthen bilateral ties.
"At the invitation of Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Yang Jiechi, Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda will visit China for two days," Qin Gang, a spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry, said in a press conference here on Thursday.
He said the two ministers would meet to discuss various bilateral, regional and international issues, especially their latest developments.
Since the signing of a China-Indonesia Strategic Cooperation accord in 2005 in Jakarta, bilateral relations between China and Indonesia had made significant progresses and improvement, he said.
The two countries were cooperating in various fields such as in the fields of politic, economic, trade, social, culture, and tourism, which improved annually, he said.
China considered Indonesia as a country which is important, good and strategic, and therefore cooperation between the two states must be improved continuously, he said.
He did not give details on the topics to be discussed by the two ministers. "But, for sure, the two ministers will try to intensify bilateral relations," he said.
Minister Wirajuda would also meet with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang during his visit in Beijing.
Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudrajat recently said the two foreign affairs minister were scheduled to sign an extradition treaty on July 1, 2009, after several postponements.
"The two countries' foreign ministers will sign the treaty here on July 1, 2009," Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudrajat said June 19, 2009.
The two countries had planned to sign the agreement last year but it was postponed due to both ministers' hectic agendas.
The extradition agreement would provide for cooperation in the legal field between the two nations in line with the Strategic Cooperation accord signed by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chinese President Hu Jianto in April 2007.
