PRABOWO ASKED TO SIGN POLITICAL CONTRACT IN JOMBANG
Jombang, East Java, June 25 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirant Megawati Soekarnoputri's running mate Prabowo Subianto has been asked to sign a political contract with farmers in Jombang, East Java, on Thursday.
The request was made when Prabowo was conducting an outdoor campaign in Jombang, by the local branch of the Indonesian Farmers Association (HKTI).
East Java HKTI deputy chairman Suyanto said the political contract with Prabowo was intended to give farmers certainty about their status after the July 8 presidential election.
"With such a political contract, we hope farmers in Indonesia, especially in East Java, will have clarity about their fate after the election," Suyanto said.
Suyanto, who is concurrently Jombang district head, said the political contract with Prabowo contained several points, namely the provision of affordable organic fertilizer for farmers, and protection of Indonesian farmers in the competition with foreign farmers.
Earlier on Thursday, before leaving for Jombang, Prabowo paid a familial visit to former East Java Governor Mohammad Noer in Surabaya.
During the visit, the former governor for three periods advised Prabowo to pay more attention to the people's interest if he was elected as vice president to accompany Megawati Soekarnoputri.
"Yes, I paid a familial visit to the former East Java governor for three periods to learn many things from him about rural and agricultural development as well as government management," Prabowo admitted.
Prabowo said the most important thing for him to be a vice president is to give his serious attention to the welfare of common people, especially the proletarians.
"Serious attention should be given to the people of the lowest social and economic class, and to empower them to develop the state and nation in the framework of people-oriented economic development," Prabowo said.
On Wednesday, Prabowo staged his election dialogic campaigns in Gresik and Lamongan.
On the occasion, Megawati's running mate said voting during the July presidential election should not be engineered.
"The votes of the people in the upcoming presidential election should be listened to and not be engineered," Prabowo said in the campaign dialog with thousands of people, including community figures, and Muslim clerics in Gresik.
