EXPLOSION AT BRIMOB HEADQUARTERS CAUSES MILLIONS IN MATERIAL DAMAGE

Jakarta, June 25 (ANTARA) - The damage caused by the explosion at the Kelapa Dua Police Mobile Brigade headquarters on Wednesday (June 17) ran into millions of rupiahs, deputy police spokesman Brigadier General Sulistiyo Ishak said.

"But the true figures of the loss are still being estimated by the Police Headquarters forensic laboratory," he said on the sidelines of a seminar on the implementation of human rights principles and standardization in the performance of police tasks, opened by Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri in Jakarta Thursday.

He said the explosion was triggered by an electric short circuit and caused a fire at the simulation hall.

The rain may have caused the short circuit which triggered the explosion.

The explosion occurred in a warehouse at the headquarters of the police's Mobile Brigade in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java, at about 02.15 am on Wednesday, police said.

The loud explosion was heard by people as far away as five kilometers from the location such as some residents near the Depok mayor's office on Jalan Margonda Raya.
