More than 5,000 school sites and 14,000 classrooms

Hanoi (VNA) – More than 5,000 school sites and 14,000 classrooms have been built
for disadvantaged children in 40 provinces across the country in the past six months
as part of the Primary Education for Disadvantaged Children (PEDC) project.

This was reported at a conference reviewing the tempo of the PEDC project held in
Hanoi on June 25.

More than 2,100 classrooms will be built in the coming time, attendees at the
conference learned.

Experts from the World Bank, AusAID, CIDA, Norad and DFID, which financed the
project, highly praised its effectiveness in getting 70.2 percent of the schools
achieving minimum educational standards after four years.

They also applauded the project for reducing the drop-out rate as well as for
improving the quality of instruction in targeted localities.

PEDC is expected to continue throughout 2010.-Enditem
