VP: NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STATE AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Bandung, Indonesia, June 26 (ANTARA) - The government makes no distinction between state and private schools in the country because they both sharpen the national mind, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said.

"There is no difference between education acquired from state schools and private schools because it has similar objective to sharpen the national mind," the vice president said as he delivered a general lecture at Latifah Mubarokiyah Islamic Institute in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Friday.

According to the vice president, to sharpen the national mind was a mandate of the 1945 Constitution.

Although the vice president admitted that to improve education quality at home, a big amount of funds was needed but the government would give its serious attention to it.

"Every year the education budget continues to increase and now it has reached 20 percent of the total state budget," the vice president said.

On the occasion, Kalla pointed out the relation in the level of prosperity, economy, and education.

According to the vice president, the measure of prosperity in one country was different from the other.

"It is because of education. People will have prosperity if they have added value in education," the vice president said.

And the increase the added value, he said one should have knowledge, and the knowledge was acquired from education at both state and private schools.

Kalla's presence at the Latifah Mubarokiyah Islamic Institute was part of his working visit to Ciamis, Tasikmalaya, and Garut districts in West Java on Friday.

Garut district administration spokesman Aam Fathullah said earlier in the day that the vice president would attend a gathering with Muslim religious scholars and community figures at Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school in Garut at 15:30 on Friday.

But before attending the gathering, the vice president would take a few minutes of his time to make a devotional visit to the grave of Prof Musadad, founder of Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school.

Earlier on Thursday evening, officials of the Garut district administration, security, and Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school held a coordination meeting to arrange a welcoming for the vice president.

Jusuf Kalla made the working visit to Garut in his capacity as vice president, not as presidential candidate, and therefore no election campaign attributes were seen around the venue.***
