INDUSTRY MINISTRY TEAMS UP WITH SOFTWARE COMPANY

Jakarta, June 27 (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry reached an agreement on cooperation with a leading software enterprise Sun Microsystem Indonesia (SMI) in the application of open sourcing technology.

Transportation and Telematics Industry Director General Budi Darmadi expressed his belief in Jakarta Thursday that the cooperation would increase the quality of resources of the local industrial players in competing on the global market.

He said the technological reviving program is an SMI attempt at supporting the government in promoting legal open sourcing technology and software, which would eventually bolster local information technology industries.

"On the occasion, the industry ministry also dedicated the Open Sourcing Technological Development Center," Darmadi said.

He said technological advancement and affordable legal software will contribute to self-reliance of local industries.

SMI, he added, is bolstered with its various open sourcing software including OpenSolaris, NetBeans, Java, and MySQL.
