KAMMI DEPLORES DISGUISED CAMPAIGN ACTIVITY DURING KALLA'S GARUT VISIT
Garut, June 27 (ANTARA) - The Garut branch of the Indonesian Muslim Students Action Front (KAMMI) deplored a disguised campaign activity during Vice President Jusuf Kalla's visit to Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school in the city on Friday.
KAMMI spokesman Hendro Sugiharto said presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla and his running mate Wiranto's voluntary team in Garut had secretly distributed pamphlets and stickers with Kalla's and Wiranto's pictures on them.
Sugiharto said KAMMI supported the vice president's visit to the Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school but it deplored the disguised campaign that had marred the visit.
A number of KAMMI members also staged a rally at Simpang Lima in Garut of Friday when the vice president arrived for a visit to the Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school.
They waved posters with various statements on them when the vice president's motorcade passed by.
The protesters questioned the realization of the political promises made by the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Jusuf Kalla pair in their campaign in the run up to the 2004 presidential election which they won.
KAMMI protested the snail-pace handling of the Ambalat issue, the Lapindo Brantas mudflow problem, creation of job opportunities, health and education guarantees, and law enforcement.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla made working visits in the districts of Ciamis, Tasikmalaya, and Garut in West Java on Friday.
In Garut, the vice president attended a gathering with Muslim religious scholars and community figures at Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school on Friday afternoon.
After the gathering, Kalla took a few minutes of his time to make a devotional visit to the grave of Prof Anwar Musadad, founder of Al-Musadaddiyah Islamic boarding school.
When delivering a general lecture at Latifah Mubarokiyah Islamic Institute in Tasikmalaya, the vice president said the government made no distinction between state and private schools in the country because they both sharpen the national mind.
"There is no difference between education acquired from state schools and private schools because they both had the same objective, namely to sharpen the national mind," Kalla said.
