YUDHOYONO DEPLORES BLACK CAMPAIGNS AGAINST HIS TICKET
Cirebon, Indonesia, June 27 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirant Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he deplored the many slanderous allegations and black campaigns that were made against him and his running mate Boediono in the run up to July 8 election.
Speaking in an electoral campaign at Bima Cirebon sports stadium here on Saturday, Yudhoyono asked his supporters and sympathizers not to follow the example of the people who had spread the slanderous allegations and conducted black campaigns.
"SBY and Boediono are attacked from various sides with material not based on tangible facts. We are concerned about this and I ask the Lord to restore the good senses of the black campaigners so they will stop their acts," Yudhoyono said.
He expressed hope that his supporters and sympathizers would shun such practices because it was a sin against God, democracy, and the people.
"It is not good for them to reach their goal by all means. They should tell the people what is true, honest, and noble. Do not attack, slander, and discredit SBY by spreading untrue stories and turning religion upside down," he said.
Addressing round 3,000 people who packed the stadium, Yudhoyono asked them to remain struggling with a clean, smart, and civilized political strategy.
He also said both central and provincial government officials should not force the people to vote for a certain pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the July election.
"Government officials, whether governors, district heads or mayors, who force the people and frighten them to vote for a certain pair, are violators of the law and regulations," Yudhoyono said.
Yudhoyono attended the campaign rally in the company of Madame Ani Yudhoyono, their son Edhie Baskoro, and a number of coalition party leaders such as United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali and National Mandate Party (PAN) Secretary General Zulkifli Hasan.
After the campaign in Cirebon, Yudhoyono and his entourage made an overland trip by bus to Semarang, Central Java, to stage similar campaigns.***
