KALLA TO DEFEND AMBALAT AT ALL COST
Balikpapan, Indonesia, June 27 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirant Jusuf Kalla said he would defend Idnonesian sovereignty in Ambalat at all cost, if he wins the July presidential election.
"The Ambalat block belongs to us, and thus we have to defend it by whatever means we have, whether through a dialog or war," Kalla said in his oration during an outdoor campaign at Merdeka Square in Balik Papan, South Kalimantan, on Saturday.
The presidential candidate from the Golkar Party made the remark to respond to a question from a local resident on the Ambalat issue.
Kalla made the oration before hundreds of people attending the rally at Merdeka Squakre.
To maintain the Ambalat block, Kalla said, he would raise the defense budget to fund the procurement of military armament if he was elected as president in the election.
"Our military's armaments should be improved. How can we wage war if our warships are old?", Kalla asked.
Kalla also promised to improve manpower-related regulations which many parties had complained about.
During Kalla's campaign, a number of teachers asked him about the improvement of education and teachers' quality, while several fishermen complained about the low prices of fish.
After a general meeting with JK-Wiranto campaign team, Kalla visited Balikpapan's Kebon Sayur Inpress market to have a dialog with the traders and visitors.
Meanwhile, JK-Win campaign team spokesman Yudhi Chrisnandi said the people who ever tried to undermine the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) would invite conflict with the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto presidential and vice-presidential candidate duo.
"Those who have aired opinions tending to compromise the KPK risk a confrontation with the JK-Win ticket," Yudhi Chrisnandi said, adding that it was the JK-Win's view that the KPK's existence should be supported as it had so far not yet performed optimally.
Speaking to reporters traveling with Jusuf Kalla and members of his campaign team, including Chrisnandi, in a Fokker plane to Balikpapan, he said the KPK's operations had yet to fully satisfy the people's sense of justice and therefore, the JK-Win camp would maintain the KPK and make it perform optimally.***
