JK-WIN CAMP WANTS KPK TO PERFORM BETTER
Jakarta, June 27 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirant Jusuf Kalla and his running mate Wiranto (JK-Win duo) campaign team said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) performance should be better in the future.
"We hope KPK's performance can be better in handling the investigation into alleged institutions that have inflicted state financial loss," JK-Win campaign team spokesman Chairuman Harahap said here on Saturday.
After attending an interactive discussion on "KPK and Presidential Candidates Campaign Issue," Harahap said JK-Win pair had made a commitment to firstly enforcing the law and eradicating corruption practices if they won the July presidential election.
"If the corruption level remains high, the government programs, whatever they are, will never run optimally. Therefore, corruption practices in the country should be uprooted," Harahap said.
Asked about black campaigns, Harahap said JK-Win success team had no intention to deliberately besmirch their rivals.
"It is impossible for us to practice such a black campaign, because our goal in the campaign is to introduce the programs of our presidential candidate to the people," he said.
Meanwhile, KPK adviser Abdullah Hehamahua said here on Saturday that the Commission was not a super body or an institution with unlimited authority.
"Many people said that KPK was a super body while in reality it is not," Abdullah Hehamahua said in a dialog on KPK and presidential campaigns here on Saturday.
Hehamahua made the remark in response to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's alleged statement that the KPK was a super body, and the efforts of the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP)'s intention to audit it.
He said the KPK was bound by the law in carrying out its tasks. For example, the anti-graft body had to ask permission from the court before it could search a person's quarters.
In addition, KPK could not investigate a corruption case which did not involve state officials, he said. It could only investigate a case which caused a loss to the state of Rp1 billion and over.***
