VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE BOEDIONO HOLDS CAMPAIGN IN BALI
Denpasar, June 28 (ANTARA)-- Vice Presidential Candidate Boediono of the Democratic Party (PD) held a dialogic campaign in Bali with various elements of the community in Lila Buana Building, Denpasar, Sunday.
The closed-door electoral campaign is expected to be attended by 1,000 people. However, the PD cadres and sympathizers from eight districts and one city in Bali would be given an opportunity to meet the vice presidential aspirant, I Gusti Bagus Alit Putra, chairman of the SBY-Boediono success team for Bali, said here on Sunday morning.
The dialogic campaign is scheduled to begin at 1.30 pm local time, and the PD cadres and sympathizers will greet Boediono at 10 am local time.
Boediono and his entourage are currently already in Bali after holding an electoral campaign in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Vice presidential candidate Boediono earlier said that if elected he would prioritize development of people's agriculture in order to improve the life of the farmers and agricultural laborers.
"The people's agriculture will be the main priority which has to be supported because it is directly related to the welfare of farmers and tea leave pluckers," Boediono said when visiting a tea plantation in Neglasari village, Darangdan sub-district, Purwakarta District, recently.
Boediono, former governor of Bank Indonesia (BI, the country's central bank) had asked tea leave pluckers to keep working enthusiastically and pray for better economic conditions.
The presidential election will be held on July 8, 2009. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009.
Incumbent Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of the Democratic Party (PD) pairs with Boediono, and is competing with other candidates, namely Jusuf Kalla and his running mate retired General Wiranto, as well as with former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo in the upcoming presidential race.
