VP ON WORKING VISITS IN FOUR PROVINCES
Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, June 29 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to visit four provinces in eastern Indonesian region on Monday.
The vice president and his entourage left Halim Perdana Kusuma, east Jakarta, on Monday morning by a presidential Fokker F-100 for Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province.
He will begin his working visit by holding a coordination meeting with central and local officials on among other things electricity supply in the region, utilization of Buton asphalt, rattan exports and acceleration of infrastructure projects in Southeast Sulawesi.
From Kendari, he will proceed to North Maluku Province where he will inaugurate a fishery port at Dufa-dufa, Ternate.
He will later fly to Ambon, Maluku, to attend a meeting of the Latupaty Assembly and former members of Malino II.
From Ambon, he will go to Manado, North Sulawesi, where he will spend the night.
On Tuesday, Kalla will attend a meeting of the Indonesian Rural Administration Association (Apdesi) in Manado.
Kalla will leave Manado for West Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday, for meetings with local officials and prominent figures, including in Central Lombok. He will conclude his two-day working visit in West Nusa Tenggara by visiting Nahdlatul Wathon Islamic boarding school.
Jusuf Kalla is a presidential hopeful from the Golkar Party and his running mate retired general Wiranto is from the People's Conscience Party (Hanura). They are competing with other candidates, namely incumbent Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who pairs with Boediono, an economist, as well as with former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and retired general Prabowo in the upcoming presidential race.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed-door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009. The presidential elections will be held on July 8, 2009.
In Jakarta, on June 18, 2009, the Latupaty Abdulla Malawat Assembly which groups 854 local kings in Maluku had expressed its moral support for the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto ticket in the upcoming presidential race.
"We ,the Latupaty Assembly, are not involved in politics but morally support presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla because he is our 'Upu Latu Mel Maluku' (great king)," Abdulla Malawat, chairman of the organization, said after a meeting with Jusuf Kalla.
In the meeting, Malawat, who was accompanied by several members of the assembly, conveyed an invitation to Kalla to visit Maluku in his capacity as vice president.
