MEGAWATI TO CONTINUE DELAYED PROGRAMS IF ELECTED
Bandarlampung, June 29 (ANTARA) - Presidential hopeful Megawati Soekarnoputri has promised to continue her delayed medium term programs if she is elected as president in the upcoming election.
"Many of my medium term programs were delayed when I was president, and I want to go ahead with them if I am elected in the July 8 presidential election," Megawati said here on Monday.
The presidential candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) said her delayed programs in the past were among others the construction of 16,000 diesel oil stations for fishermen and other people-oriented economic development programs.
In addition, she also promised to monitor the availability of subsidized fertilizer for farmers, and to realize the construction of a railway line from Aceh to Lampung.
"Almost all medium-term programs that I drew up when I was president failed to materialize because I was in office only 2.5 years. But this time, if the people of Indonesia trust me to be the next president, I will continue with those programs," Megawati said.
She said she was optimistic she would win the election in Lampung with the parameter of the victory of Sjachroeding ZP from PDIP in the gubernatorial election.
"I am sure I will have a landslide victory in Lampung because Pak Sjachroedin of PDIP grabbed almost 50 percent of the vote in the past gubernatorial election ," Megawati said.
Megawati's optimism to win in Lapung was also supported by the fact that the province is a strong base of the Marhaenist Indonesian National Party (PNI Marhaen) as the root of PDIP.
"PNI Marhaen is the root of PDIP and has a strong base in Lampung, and therefore it makes me more optimistic to win the upcoming presidential election here," Megawati said in her campaign at three separate locations in Lampung on Monday.
