MEGA-PRO TICKET TO LAUNCH PRO-PEOPLE POLITICAL CONTRACT
Jakarta, June 30 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirant Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro pair) will launch a pro-people political contract on Tuesday.
Megawati and Prabowo are scheduled to launch the pro-people political contract in a grand campaign rally at Gelora Bung Karno sports stadium here later in the day.
The event will be preceded by a long march of tens of thousands of the pair's supporters and sympathizers starting from Megawati's residence on Teuku Umar street in Central Jakarta at 1 p.m.
From Megawati's residence, the long march will reach the Hotel Indonesia traffic roundabout, Sudirman street, and Atmajaya University, Ratu Plaza, and end at Gelora Bung Karno sports stadium.
The Mega-Pro pair during the election campaign period has signed tens of political contracts with various public elements such as farmers, fishermen, traditional market traders, workers, and even students.
The presidential and vice presidential candidates nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) focus their vision and mission on national self-reliance through the empowerment of national wealth and natural resources for the welfare of all the people.
During her campaign in Sidoarjo, East Java, last Friday, Megawati signed a political contract with the local Indonesian Students Executive Board (BEM).
The political contract was signed by Megawati at the VIP room of Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.
On the occasion Megawati said some of the points in the political contract called for the revocation of article 53 of Law No.20/2003 on the national education system (BHP), rejection of the commercialization of education in various fields, and the improvement of the national education system.
"We have been opposing the law on BHP all along, because it imposes a heavy burden on our young people wishing to enjoy higher education," Megawati said.
The presidential aspirant nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) said many students with good academic scores aspiring to continue their studies at universities had to abandon their ambition because they could not bear the cost. ***
