SBY-BOEDIONO DUO RECEIVES MOST ATTACKS IN NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNS
Jakarta, June 30 (ANTARA) - Most of the negative campaigns conducted by presidential candidate camps in the runup to the July 8, 2009 election are against the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono - Boediono (SBY-Boediono) ticket, according to a survey.
Director of Strategy Public Relations (Strategy PR) Ali Nurdin said his organization had conducted a survey on negative campaign reports published by eight daily newspapers and three on-line media in the June 1-22, 2009 period.
The subjects surveyed during the campaigns included the issues raised, attacking parties and affecting presidential aspirants in the run up to the presidential elections.
Ali Nurdin said of the 1,689 news items analyzed, the SBY-Bodiono ticket was attacked 163 times but the duo itself retaliated 128 times.
The Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto (JK-WIN) pair attacked 89 times and was itself targeted 89 times while the Megawati Soekarnoputri - Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro) duo launched 78 attacks and was assaulted 67 times.
About 52.1 percent of the negative campaigns directed at the SBY-Boediono pair came from the JK-WIN duo and the remaining 45.4 percent came from the Mega-Pro pair.
In the meantime, about 85.1 percent of negative campaigns directed at Mega-Pro came from SBY-Boediono while only about 3 percent came from the JK-WIN camp.
Likewise, some 79.9 percent of the negative campaigns were launched by the SBY-Boediono camp against the JK-WIN pair while only abut 4.5 percent of the attacks were directed at the Mega-Pro camp.
"Thus it is clear that the Mega-Pro and JK-WIN camps almost never attacked each other. It is as if they cooperated in attacking incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhono's camp," Ali Nurdin said.
Nurdin said that negative campaigns were something relatively new in Indonesian politics and all presidential contestants admitted they were disadvantaged by such campaigns. ***
