THOUSANDS FROM KARAWANG TO JAKARTA FOR MEGA-PRO MASS RALLY
Karawang, Indonesia, June 30 (ANTARA) - Thousands of Karawang district residents coordinated by the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) and Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) on Tuesday morning headed to Jakarta for a mass campaign rally of the Megawati-Prabowo pair.
They were expected to arrive in Jakarta at noon to join a mass campaign rally of presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto at Bung Karno Sports Stadium.
"By 15 buses, thousands of PDIP and Gerindra cadres and sympathizers left their respective electoral disricts for Jakarta to to join others at the Bung Karno sports stadium for Megawati and Prabowo's outdoor campaign rally ," Mega-Pro campaign team spokesman Zaenal Asikin said.
He said the Mega-Pro campaign team, supported by more than 7,000 cadres and sympathizers, would also stage another outdoor rally on Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Karawang district.
During the grand campaign at the Bung Karno sports stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday, Megawati and Prabowo are expected to sign pro-people political contracts.
The event will be preceded by a long march of tens of thousands of the pair's supporters and sympathizers starting from Megawati's residence on Teuku Umar street in Central Jakarta at 1 p.m.
From Megawati's residence, the long march will reach the Hotel Indonesia traffic roundabout, Sudirman street, and Atmajaya University, Ratu Plaza, and end at the Bung Karno sports stadium.
The Mega-Pro pair during the election campaign period has signed tens of political contracts with various elements of society such as farmers, fishermen, traditional market traders, workers, and even students.
The presidential and vice presidential candidates nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) focus their vision and mission on national self-reliance through development of the country's national wealth and natural resources for the welfare of all the people.
During her campaign in Sidoarjo, East Java, last Friday, Megawati signed a political contract with the local Indonesian Students Executive Board (BEM).
The political contract was signed by Megawati at the VIP room of Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.***
