MODERATOR IN CANDIDATES` DEBATES MUST NOT DOMINATE : OFFICIAL
Jakarta, June 30 (ANTARA) - The moderator in the presidential and vice presidential debates should not be too dominant and not ask too many questions during the event, an electoral official said.
"The debate should not be dominated by the moderator who asks too many questions," General Election Commission (KPU) member Syamsulbahri said here on Tuesday.
He said the Commission had evaluated the previous debates in an effort to improve the next ones but their format would remain the same.
The second round of the vice presidential candidate debate will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday and be broadcast live by a private TV station.
Tuesday night's debate among the vice presidential candidates themed "Improving the Quality of the Indonesian People's Life", will be the last and moderated by Fahmi Idris, chairman of the Indonesian Physicians' Association.
Last June 23, 2009, the first round of the vice presidential candidate debate was conducted under the theme "To Develop National Identity" with Komaruddin Hidayat as moderator.
Meanwhile, the first and second rounds of the KPU-organized presidential candidate debate were conducted consecutively on June 18 with the theme, "To Realize Good and Clean Governance Management and to Enforce Human Rights and Legal Supremacy", and on June 25 with the theme "Unemployment and Poverty Eradication," with Aviliani as moderator.
The first round of the vice presidential candidate debate last Tuesday (June 23, 2009) was said to be much better and more interesting than the first debate between the presidential aspirants.
