MEGA-PRO HOLD ROUSING CAMPAIGN RALLY IN JAKARTA

Jakarta, June 30 (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro) held a rousing campaign rally at the Bung Karno Sports Stadium here on Tuesday.

Apart from performances of the 'Raja' music group, singers Emilia Contessa and Denada, the Mega-Pro sympathizers who packed the sports stadium were also entertained with other attractions and a procession of large toy bulls, banners as well as flags of PDIP and the Greater Indonesian Movement (Gerindra) Party.

Flags of the National Mandate Party (PAN) were also seen.

Large posters which read "Mega-Prabowo Untuk Indonesia (Mega-Prabowo for Indonesia)" also adorned various sides of the Bung Karno sports stadium.

Megawati, who is a former president, is the leader of PDIP while Prabowo Subianto, a former commandant of the Army's Strategic Reserves Command (KOSTRAD), is the chairman of the Gerindra party.

The rally was also attended by other daughters and son of Indonesia's founding president Soekarno, such as Sukmawati Soekarnoputri and Guruh Soekarnoputra, as well as other leaders of PDIP and Gerindra.

On the occasion, the Mega-Pro duo also launched a political contract commitment for the Indonesian people.

During the on-going presidential campaigns, the Mega-Pro ticket has signed about 10 political contracts with various quarters such as fishermen, farmers, traditional market traders, laborers and students.

The Mega-Pro is to compete with two other presidential candidates in the upcoming presidential election on July 8 next week, namely Jusuf Kalla and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

Jusuf Kalla, chairman of the Golkar Party and incumbent vice president, is pairing with Wiranto, chairman of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura).

SBY, who is incumbent president and chief patron of the Democratic Party (DP) is pairing up with former Bank Indonesia governor Boediono (SBY-Boediono tiket).

The presidential election will be held on July 8, 2009. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009.***
